Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why should I register?
When you register with us you have the ability to save your billing and shipping addresses, as well as being able to log in to your account to easily check on order status and view previous orders. You have the ability to save your shopping cart so that you can return to complete your purchase at a later time. You will also have access to occasional "members-only" specials on our website. Please be assured that we will never rent, sell or give your information to anyone else. We respect your privacy and we don't like spam either.
  • When will I receive my order?
We do our best to ship all orders within two weeks. Most orders ship much more quickly. If, for any reason, we are unable to ship your entire order within two weeks, we will contact you to determine the best course for your order. In some cases we will ship partial orders and in others, we will wait until backordered items are back in inventory to ship your entire order, depending on your preference.
  • What shipping methods do you use?
We generally ship via the U.S. Postal Service First Class mail. In some cases, it is necessary or more efficient to ship via UPS. If we ship your order via UPS, your shipping email will contain the UPS tracking number. Please be aware that, in some cases with UPS and the Postal Service, a signature will be required for delivery of your order. We will notify you at shipping time if we know that your order will require a signature for delivery.
  • How can I check on the status of my order?
If you are a registered customer, you can login to your account and view your Account Information page. All of your orders will be listed and you can check on the status of any of these orders by clicking on the date of the order. To check on the status of an order placed without registering, you can visit our Customer Service page where you will find a place to enter the confirmation number from your Order Confirmation email. From there you will be taken to a page that displays your invoice as well as your shipping status and tracking number, if applicable. You also have the option to email us any time regarding your order.
  • What payment options do I have?
For payment for your orders, we accept Visa, Mastercard via our secure ordering pages as well as Paypal.
  • Do you accept special orders?
Please feel free to contact us if you are unable to find the materials or designs you are seeking. We can frequently special order items that are not on our website. Please note however, some manufacturers do not sell to online shops in an effort to preserve brick-and-mortar needlework shops.
  • What is your return policy?
We will do our best to work with you to ensure your satisfaction. Due to copyright restrictions, charts and designs are not returnable. Un-used floss and fabric may be returned in sellable (no stains, no odors, etc.) condition within 30 days. Please contact us for return instructions.
  • How can I tell the true color of a fabric?
As you know, due to difference in monitors, it is hard to tell the true color of a fabric from the little swatch that we show on the website. We do our best to include the closest DMC color match to the fabric in the fabric description. We know that sometimes, even the closest DMC color match isn't enough information to make a decision. In these cases, please feel free to contact us and we may be able to arrange a fabric swatch for you.
  • What does "count" mean?
"Count" is the number of threads per inch in a fabric. For instance, 18 count linen will have 18 threads per inch. The higher the count, the finer the fabric.
  • What does "stitched over 2" mean?
Many evenweave fabrics are stitched over two threads. This means that, instead of drawing your thread diagonally over one "cross" in the fabric threads as you do on Aida, you will count over two threads and vertically two threads to complete your stitches.
  • What does "2 over 2" mean?
Two over two indicates that you will used two plies of floss or thread and stitch over two threads in your fabric.
  • How do I prepare my fabric for stitching?
First of all, your fabric is folded and placed in a plastic bag when shipping. You want to store your fabric as flat as possible to prevent any permanent creases. You will also want to store your fabric away from light to prevent fading. Before you begin stitching, you will want to stabilize the edges of your fabric by serging or zigzagging the edges. If you do not have access to a serger or zigzag sewing machine, you can apply masking tape over the edges to keep them from unraveling while you stitch. Keep in mind that you will have to CUT off the taped edges when you finish stitching so be sure to order enough fabric to account for this "shrinkage".
  • Why don't you have the color of Belfast/Cashel/Jobelan/Lugana/Aida etc. that my chart specifies?
It does happen that manufacturers occasionally discontinue certain colors in certain fabrics. In some cases, another manufacturer has a substantially similar color available. Please feel free to drop us a note if you cannot find your color. We can often suggest a suitable substitute. -- If you having the particular color specified is more important to you than the fiber content, you can do a search on the color name in our Product Search page. This will give you an idea of any other fabrics that are available in the same color.
  • I am trying to use DMC floss instead of Anchor? How do I know which colors to get?
You can visit our Reference page. We have some conversion charts available and will continue to add more reference materials over time.
